The Battle of the Blades
The Battle of the Blades is an iconic event that takes place in some of Bunbury's most picturesque aquatic locations including Koombana Bay, The Cut, Leschenault Estuary and Australinds Ridley's Place. The event is open to SUP’s and Outrigger Canoes (OC1). The event boasts one the best novice courses with a downwind orientation on the West Coast, and is the perfect starter event for anyone interested in taking their first steps into paddling competitively. Presented by Paddlers for Paddlers, The Bunbury Wavemasters.
Two course will be on offer. A long course of just under 9km's, and a shorty of 4.3km - The Mervin 4000.
Seasoned racers will enjoy the varied conditions the long course will bring, while the Mervin 4000 is perfect for new paddlers looking for a break out event to try.
Short course paddlers will be joining half way with the long course guys, allowing rookie paddlers a box seat to watch the more experienced paddlers techniques as they link in with the field. If the winds are up, we encourage all to share a wave where safe and share the stoke.
Race registration will be from 1100 to 1230 at the Casurina Boat Harbor
Race briefing will be held at 1230
The race will start at 1400.
Time has been allowed for competitors to organise vehicle shuffling to the finish.

Please note that the long course does take competitors across Koombana Bay, which requires paddlers to carry a pfd and flare. This will need to be sighted at the race rego. A leash is compulsory for both legs, no leash no start.
The Battle of the Blades is hosted by the Bunbury Wavemasters, and we invite all to join us in our penultimate club event for the season. The Wavies love this little course and this event is their way of sharing it rest of the paddle community, and promoting the sport of SUP into regional WA.
Please note: If adverse conditions are predicted, a decision on Thursday 1800 whether to run the event or not, and communicated via email and social media.
