Ever wanted to give SUP Tech racing a try or keen to brush up on your racing skill ahead of National championship in Canberra in April ?? SUPWA is pleased to announce Race 2 of the The After Glow Training Series on 16 January 2025 at 5:00pm The After Glow TRaining Series is a series of 3 evening SUP Technical Races to held over the Summer 25/26 out of Ascot Kayak Club and the SUPWA Shed / Hurricane Outrigger Club in East Fremantle.  The course will be around  1 km technical race, around the pond and waters in front of the beach at the SUPWA Shed. Race is open to all board types and SUP paddlers from Rookie to Advanced.  Both SUPWA members and non-members are welcome and includes BBQ afterwards (BYO drinks) with a social get together with SUPWA and Hurricane crew afterwards.  Please arrive from 5:00pm for sign on and safety briefing. Leg/waist leash mandatory. NO LEASH, NO PADDLE. By enrolling/participating in this event you agree to the following waiver release and indemnification  1. I waive all claims that I may have against the SUPWA Inc, its officers, directors, members, volunteers, employees, agents and sponsors, or its executors, administrators heirs, successors or assigns(\""the orgainisers\""), and release them from all claims. 2. I agree to indemnify and keep indemnified the orgainsers against damage arising out of my participation in the events and its related activities. 3. I agree to comply with all the rules, regulations and instructions of the orgainsers. 4. I agree and acknowledge that any existing or prior medical condition will not affect my participation in entering a SUPWA event. 5. I hereby permit the free use of my name and picture in any broadcasts, telecasts and the press including website as they pertain to the SUPWA their events and activities. 6. Registration 3pm for a no later than 3:15 start. Come down to Ascot Kayak Club, with your best Christmas costume to the Paddle Loop Christmas Special Following the paddle loop course there will be the bonus 1st race of the afterglow mini technical race and a sundowner BBQ picnic. it's a free event for SUPWA members or $10 to non members,just nominate your completion time. 1. The Long Loop(2xlaps) - 4km (below 30mins is a good time for strong paddler) 2. Short Loop(1xlap) - 2km (below 15mins is a good time for a strong paddler) 3. 1km loop also available!! All board lengths and types are welcome - It isn't a race, but about having fun. Nominate a time that you think you will achieve - next Paddle Loop try and beat that time. The trick is to paddle consistently at a speed you feel comfortable with - which is entirely up to you! The winner is the person closest to their nominated time.  The top 3 paddlers (closest to their time) receive ultimate legendary SUP paddler status + prizes. It's a fun opportunity to get involved with the very friendly SUPWA community and try or develop your SUP paddling. Get some tips, have some fun or have a goal for fitness. Open to all levels and all ages. (Kids under 13 must be accompanied/chaperoned by an adult around the course). Please arrive 3pm for sign on and safety briefing. Leg/waist leash mandatory. The 2025 Matagarup Classic is happening on Sunday 14 June 2025 paddling in Swan River waters around East Perth, and Optus Stadium This is one of newest paddle races on Paddle WA Calendar and is really well suited for SUP in a great location for both both paddlers and spectators.   There is both a Long Course (Main Race) of 12km as well as a Short Course 6.7km Courses [See Map]: Main Race [12Km]: Le Mans start at Banks Reserve, up, in and out of Claisebrook Inlet [round Red buoy], up to Heirisson Bridge, back under Matagarup and Graham Farmer Freeway, round Belmont Race Course, turn at Green spit at end of water-ski area, come to right of all Red spits on way back to Banks Reserve, DO NOT GO THROUGH FINISH LINE, carry on to in and out of Claisebrook Inlet again, back under Graham Farmer, turn at Red spit just beyond finish line, finish between Red buoy and beach at Banks Reserve. Short Course [6.7km]: Le Mans start at Banks Reserve, up, in and out of Claisebrook Inlet [round Red buoy], up to Heirisson Bridge, back under Matagarup and Graham Farmer Freeway, turn at Red spit just beyond finish line, finish between Red buoy and beach at Banks Reserve. The 2025 Island to Island Marathon will be held at Ascot Kayak Club on Monday 29th September 2025. This is another great SUP race which starts upstream from the Ascot Jetty and paddle down to the right side of Ron Courtney Island, under Tonkin Bridge (1.4 km) and Garratt Rd Bridge (3.4 km) past the Maylands boat yards. The annual John Sims race run by the Ascot Kayak Club is a great SUP race for people wanting to try distance SUP racing. It will be held on Sunday 27th April 2025 at Ascot Kayak Club There is both a long course (11.5km) and short course (8km) for beginners.  THE COURSE 11.5 km in distance, the water is flat and mostly deep. Usually there is little wind but there is some river traffic. The start is at the Jetty at Ascot Kayak Club, paddlers head up-stream to Barkers Bridge (West Swan Road bridge) in Guildford. The turn under the bridge is anti-clockwise and it’s a sprint home to Ascot Kayak Club not stopping until you have passed the jetty finish line. SHORT COURSE Approximately 8 km in distance. The start is at the Jetty at Ascot Kayak Club and paddlers head up-stream to Guildford Bridge (Guildford Road bridge). The turn under the bridge is anti-clockwise and it’s a sprint home to Ascot Kayak Club not stopping until you have passed the jetty finish line. Looking for a Challenge in 2025 ?? This year WA will be hosting the Paddle Australia Australian Marathon Canoe / Kayak and SUP Championship at Ascot Kayak Club over the weekend 10-13 April 2025. The program will include National title races for SUPs in Technical, Marathon and Sprint. There will be male/female open and multiple age categories in all races. Current Dates are: SUP Marathon - Thursday 10th April 2025 SUP Sprints - Saturday 12 April 2025 SUP Technical - Sunday 13 April 2025 SUPWA will be supporting the event and will provide a $50 rebate* on entry for any SUPWA member that wishes to enter to encouraging as many WA SUP paddlers to enter the Championship. Dont be put off by the fact its a National title event, WA put on a great show in 2023 in Geelong with over 7 paddlers representing WA, with most us entering our first nationals, being really competitive and having a great time. The annual SUPWA Wedge Island Shaka comp is on again. The most fun SUP surfing comp ever sponsored once again by the Stand Up Surf Shop North Fremantle. It will be on Sunday April 6 2025. We will decide which day a week out, choosing the best conditions. It will run over just the one day either Saturday or Sunday. The decision will be posted on the SUPWA Facebook page as will the exact location at Wedge. The location is 4WD only and no dogs allowed.   Traditionally this has been a SUP longboard event but like last year any length boards are allowed (but longboards are encouraged) with judges scoring equally for longboard manourves as for shortboard ones. The format is that everyone surfs twice no knockout heats. The divisions are male, female, juniors and rookie division. The event will also include a Tech Race which will have a Rookie Division. Surfing and racing included in entry price. Can do either event or both. Entry is $50 for SUPWA members and $80 for Non-SUPWA Members (includes Day-only SUPWA Membership).
