2020 Stand Up Surf Shop King of the Cut
Secret Harbour Surf Club
12:00 – 18:30
Australia's World Class Downwind Run The Stand Up Surf Shop King of The Cut (KOTC) is held along the beautiful Peel Coastline where the famed, powerful and consistent West Coast sea breeze blows perfect, un-interrupted runners like an endless conveyor belt. The 2020 edition of the Australian Downwind Championship the King of The Cut is in its 9th year and is again presented by SUPWA and the event’s long-time sponsor, the Stand Up Surf Shop in North Fremantle.Like most events this year, we have been affected by COVID and the limitations with runing an international event. This isn't enough to keep the seabreeze and stonking downwind conditions away though, so we will be running this event with a few modifications and some new bonuses!   Here’s what we have for you in 2020:   1. Ski's are in the KotC! - after years of asking, ski's will feature for the first time in the full KotC24 run. The Indian Ocean Paddlers have joined teh KotC Board this year to assist with the running of the Ski's. This means we can have a meaningful ski event, that feels familiar and catered to within our longstanding SUP Downwind weekend. This year is truely all about the Stoke with all downwind craft - SUPs, Foils,  OCs, Paddleboards and Ski competing together. 2. Registration and Finish at Secret Harbour - This year we will have registration at Secret Harbour where we finish. The presentations will also be at Secret Harbour Surf Club. 3. No KotC12 - due to the short run into the KotC this year, we are stripping back to the basics. There is no 1/2 Cut distance this year. 4. No Prize Money - the 2020 KotC is a local community event this year. There will be trophies for divisions and various award, however there is not enough scope for our hard working KotC Board to organise prize money for this year's event. This year the event will again be tracked live by the great people at Track Me Live. Follow the link for 2020 competitor details, tracking and results: https://live.trackmelive.com.au/KOTC2020/   Entries are now open and will close at noon on Wednesday 2nd December 2020. No refunds will be available after this date.  Please contact Greg – gregk@horizonphysio.com.au if you have any queries about entries or to arrange KOTC tee shirts for OC2 crews.   King of The Cut24 Stand Up Surf Shop King and Queen of The Cut, first male and female to cross the finish line on any length board (except a foiling SUP) -  KOTC Saw Blade trophy For the foils: Dale Chapman Surf Designs Foiling SUP/Wing Foil first male or female foiling SUP to finish. Voting will close on 22nd March 2021 To vote click on "Get Tickets" on the right hand of this page and select "one" ticket for number of tickets and click on "Check Out". You will then come a page with a text box labled "Aloha Award Recipient" - enter the name of the SUPWA member there. In the distance SUP’s will  complete 2 x laps of the main race course with the inclusion of a  “Boomerang” turn at one end . “You choose when and where to complete the turn which adds another tactical element to the race – should excite the Technical Racing Paddlers!"   OC's 200m,500m and 4.5km short course   We encourage Juniors to enter, with the main focus being on having a "Fun" day out. Dont have a board, no problem. We have a number of 12ft very stable race boards avaiable for any Junior SUP paddler to use. Please call Geoff Bryant 0413c432 253 to book a board.   2020 BLACKBLADE-AUSTRALIAN SHORT COURSE TITLES   The  Black Blade is the finest SUP Short Course regatta in Australia. The Black Blade was the first SUP Short distance race on a buoyed course in the world outside America. This event has a unique decathlon style format with distances of 200m,500m and 3500m,4500m for OC paddlers Athletes race over the 3 distances with the times calculated to award the best paddler over all 3 distances   Race numbers are drawn from a hat to create a starting list for 200m heats, paddlers are then ranked into A,B and C races for the 200m final and 500m sprint race according to their heat times not age groups, this means we will have the fastest paddlers matched against each other. Paddlers will choose their lane according to the heat seeding. The short course  race will be a mass start.   To achieve a fair outcome over the 3 distances your time in the 200m is doubled the 500m stays the same and the short course time is divided by 3.   This modern, tried and tested handicapping system means you have to well in all distances to take out the title for your age division, but can make up time in distances you are better at. It’s a twist on just flatwater racing, it’s paddling consistency – sorts out the ultimate paddler – whether a Downwinder paddler, Flatwater racer or SUP Surfer – who’s got the Engine,Endurance and Tactics?   Board Class : Race Boards 14ft and under (must use same board for all 3 races)   Trophies awarded for Open/Elite* – Male/Female 1st,2nd and 3rd   Medals awarded for Male U/40 1st,2nd and 3rd Male O/40 1st,2nd and 3rd Male 0/50 1st,2nd and 3rd   Female U/40 1st,2nd and 3rd Female O/40 1st,2nd and 3rd   Junior Male Junior Female   *Top 3 best overall times will constitute the Open/Elite division -recognising the most outstanding paddlers. Paddlers finishing outside of the top 3 will then be broken down into age divisions.   The Overall 1st placed SUP Open/Elite Male/Female will also have there name etched onto the Major Perpetual Trophy as well as the fastest SUP Paddler over 200m   We will again this year be inviting OC and V1 paddlers to race over all distances a trophy will be awarded for 1st,2nd and 3rd in the Overall category and a medal for the fastest OC over 200m.   SUP and OC paddlers don’t often get to race at a world class venue with certified photo finish timing so get your entries in early and start training and GO WEST for this great day of racing.   Who will be the fastest paddler over 200m? Who will be the overall Champion?    29th of March 2020 Venue opens at 0730 for course warm up’s Registration and Briefing: 0930 Race Start 1030 Presentations at 1430 Venue closes at 1530 Champion Lakes Regatta Centre, Armadale, Western Australia
