Aloha Spirit Award 2019
Coast Port Beach
11:00 – 12:00
The Aloha Spirit Award is a special award to the person the SUP community feels represents the values of SUP in WA.
Duke Kahanamoku was a Hawiian legend credited with spreading surfing around the world. He was also a 5 times Olympic medalist, but more so, was regarded as the embodiment of "Aloha Spirit" - acceptence and kindness, working to grow our sport without personal gain.
The award is voted upon by you the SUPWA members and can go to any SUPWA member. The award will be presented at the Annual Dinner. Voting will close on Tuesday the 13th of August 2019.
To vote click on "Get Tickets" on the right hand of this page and select "one" ticket for number of tickets and click on "Check Out". You will then come a page with a text box labled "Aloha Award Recipient" - enter the name of the SUPWA member there. It is FREE to nominate, no transaction will take place.
The Award will be presented at the SUPWA Annual Dinner on the 16th of August.

2019 SunSmart Paddle Challenge
07:00 – 13:00
Invitation from Paddle WA for SUP'ers to join in: The details may change so keep up to date by following their links.
"I hope all is well in the world of SUP!
Coming up on the 9th of June is the 2019 SunSmart Paddle Challenge. As I'm sure you're aware, we welcome SUP's to compete in the event and have a designated class for them. We are yet to fully begin promoting the event to the paddling community, but I have created the registration on Webscorer if you would like to advertise the event or pass on the link to your members.
https://www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=177101
We have four distances on offer for SUPs, including an 18km, 11km, 6km and 3.5km course to suit paddlers of all abilities. There were two entries in last years event, so we hope that by offering a range of distances that we can increase this number for 2019! Please know that to form a class (ie be eligible for prizes) there must be 4 men entered and 3 ladies for each distance (not total).
I hope you are excited about this event and that your community are willing to give this 'challenge' a go!
Kind regards,

WORLD Ocean DAY
07:00 – 23:00
https://www.worldoceansday.org/
It is time to celebrate our waterway's... Grab your SUP, Grab your Mates and go and enjoy a surf, or just potter out in our big ol' blue. Help the ocean out and pick up some rubbish on the beach or in the water, share your catch with us at https://www.facebook.com/StandUpPaddleWA/
WHY CELEBRATE WORLD OCEANS DAY?
A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival. Every year, World Oceans Day provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared ocean. The ocean is important because it:
Generates most of the oxygen we breathe
Helps feed us
Regulates our climate
Cleans the water we drink
Offers a pharmacopoeia of medicines
Provides limitless inspiration!
NOW EACH OF US CAN GIVE BACK
Participate in a World Oceans Day event or activity this year and help protect the ocean for the future. It’s up to each one of us to help ensure that our ocean is healthy for future generations. World Oceans Day allows us to:
Change perspective – encourage individuals to think about what the ocean means to them and what it has to offer all of us with hopes of conserving it for present and the future generations.
Learn – discover the wealth of diverse and beautiful ocean creatures and habitats, how our daily actions affect them, and how we are all interconnected.
Change our ways – we are all linked to, and through, the ocean! By taking care of your backyard and helping in your community, you are acting as a caretaker of our ocean. Making small modifications to your everyday habits will make a difference, and involving your family, friends, and community will benefit our blue planet even more!
Celebrate – whether you live inland or on the coast, we are all connected to the ocean. Take the time to think about how the ocean affects you, and how you affect the ocean, and then organize or participate in activities that celebrate our ocean.
The Ocean Project helps lead global promotion and coordination of World Oceans Day. Since 2002, we have collaboratively worked in partnership with hundreds of organizations and networks from all sectors to help rally the world around 8 June, and continue to grow engagement and action for our shared ocean throughout the year. All information, materials and resources on this site and associated with World Oceans Day are free to use to those who are celebrating World Oceans Day as a way to bring about a healthier ocean and a better future. World Oceans Day® is trademarked to protect it from those who might have commercial or counterproductive interests.
