Action Sports WA Bridge the Bank 2016
The Narrows Bridge South Perth Start conditions permitting
09:00 – 13:00
Welcome all to the most tactical event on the SUPWA calendar, where a smart race plan can prove more valuable than being the fastest paddler or riding the fastest board. The Bridge to Bank is an exciting mixed teams race for paddlers of all levels. Paddlers are to register in a male/female team, each completing a section of the race. Teams will decide on there strongest paddler to complete the first leg from the Narrows Bridge 8km’s down river to the Point Walter Spit where they will tag their partner. The second member will then paddle the final 3km leg finishing at the home of SUP in WA, The Swan Yacht Club. The scientifically developed handicap system allows teams to ride boards ranging from short surf SUP’s all the way to unlimited race boards, an advantage being given to those game enough to paddle shorter boards. The only division available for registration is the mixed division which covers both genders and all board lengths. On the morning of the race, each team must register their board length with race officials. A fun afternoon will follow the race at the Swan Yacht Club, hopefully you can all stay around for a drink, some light hearted awards and maybe a bite to eat. COURSE DIRECTION. Currently the course is set for a start at the Narrows bridgeand finishing at the Swan Yacht Club. However, if conditions on the day are looking unfavorable, we have the ability to switch the race direction. A decision will be made closer to the date when a weather forecast is available and all competitors will be informed of necessary information in the days leading up to the event via email and SUPWA social media.   REGISTRATION. On-line registrations close at 7.00pm Thursday 15th September. We will be unable to take entries on the day of the event.   SIGN IN Sign in will open at 9.00am at Swan Yacht Club Riverside Rd, Preston Point, E Fremantle. The sign in point will be near the SUPWA shed. You will be supplied with your race number at this point. Please be early so that we can process all competitors before the briefing.   RUNNING TIME 0900:  Registration at The Swan Yacht Club 0930:  Race briefing 1030: Race start from The Narrows 1115 – 1200: Racers arrive at Point Walter 1200:  Cut off for paddlers arriving at Point Walter 1200-1300: Paddlers finish race at SYC   SAFETY All competitors are required to wear a legrope/leash whilst competing in this event. Life jackets and PFD's are not compulsory but can be worn if so desired by the competitor. There will be a rescue boat in attendance during the event.   LOGISTICS  Please organise with your paddling partner your transport logistics. Remember you will be changing paddlers at Point Walter Bank and the race will be finishing at the Swan Yacht Club. Make sure you're at the finish to cheer your teammate over the line.   PRESENTATIONS Presentations will be held at Swan Yacht Club in the outdoors alfresco area at approximately 1PM.  Free finger food will be available for competitors with meals and drinks also available from the club at great prices.   CONTACT Contact Wesley Fry on Facebook or 0452561147 if you have any questions regarding this event.   If you have requested a partner but have not yet received an email with their contact details, we will be in contact with you as soon as we have someone available. If we are unable to match all paddlers to a partner, don't worry you will still be able to compete and there will be prizes available for this division. So make sure you still come along. Action Sports WA and SUPWA look forward to seeing you on the water for what is bound to be a great event.

29-06-2016 12:00 – 24-08-2016 17:00
The Aloha Spirit Award is a special award to the person the SUP community feels represents the values of SUP in WA. Duke Kahanamoku was a Hawiian legend credited with spreading surfing around the world. He was also a 5 times Olympic medalist, but more so, was regarded as the embodiment of "Aloha Spirit" - acceptence and kindness, working to grow our sport without personal gain. The award is voted upon by you the SUPWA members and can go to any SUPWA member. The award will be presented at the Annual Dinner. Voting will close on Wednesday the 24th of August 2016. To vote click on "Buy Tickets" on the right hand of this page and follow prompts to "purchase one ticket". You will then come a page with a text box labled "Aloha Award Recipient" - enter the name of the SUPWA member there. It is FREE to nominate, no transaction will take place.
